Banning or prohibiting technology that would circumvent the filter, would be banning the same technology (Virtual Private Networking, encryption) that is relied upon by many businesses and individuals to ensure confidentiality and security in their dealings online. This would severely inhibit Australia's ability to compete in the digital economy and render individuals more vulnerable online.
