Particularly for rural dwellers, digital communication provides social connectivity on so many levels - both with existing friends, all over Australia and the world, and with new connections, sharing interests, hobbies, professions or other aspects of life. It is an essential form of modern communication, and the default channel by which young urban people communicate, whether they connect on phones or computers. Rural youth already feel isolated in some ways - nothing to do, nowhere to go - and a lack of communication with their urban colleagues just adds to this. As to the hows - well, Australia is vast, and it will be expensive - but it's essential.
