As others have posted, the government of the USA has gifted the world with a bounty of non copyright material. It is not possible to provide the same level of wikipedia detail, mashups, maps etc for Australia because of Crown Copyright.
The government should look at removing most of Part VII of the Copyright Act 1968 and having something similar to Section 105 of the US Copyright act:
"Copyright protection under this title is not available for any work of the United States Government, but the United States Government is not precluded from receiving and holding copyrights transferred to it by assignment, bequest, or otherwise."
