It is critical for broadcasters to demonstrate a level of integrity in delivering quality based Australian content on our airways. So much of a free to air media is driven by American cultural values that it is hard to find the Australianness within our broadcasting industry. The ABC & SBS does this. In particular the ABC is freedom from the ravages of commercial TV which is just driven by its fascination for everything NCIS murder, purist of terror, sensationalised journalism and the bombardment for the need to over consume! If traditional media loses the impact of the ABC which clearly demonstrates an innovative approach to delivering its content, via other media forms - not just small screen, then our identity will be eroded!
We will lose - I will lose, my children will lose - a sense of independence, the ability to react to, engage with, and part take in a dialogue with a media source that has puts on a 'thinking hat' and does not just deliver 'talking flat heads'. My children find the ABC in its form of TV, on-line, podcast and streaming a revelation to their learning! Commercial media outlets whether via the small screen, radio, on-line etc do not have or reflect an understanding of critical analysis but only the critical ROI that they and their shareholders seek! Keep creating and maintaining a point of difference please!!
BE DIFFERENT, BE BOLD - MAINTAIN THE ABC!! PROVIDE OUR CHILDREN WITH AN AVENUE FOR SOURCING A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW!!
Thanks!
