Despite many years as a keen viewer of SBS television, I have been unable to continue my loyalty to the station since it has been revamped into a pseudo-commercial entity. This is particularly disappointing to me as I believe strongly in the original Charter of SBS, and wish I could continue to support it. I now only watch an occasional program (such as the First Australians) and grit my teeth when it is interrupted by advertisements.

The current Board of SBS would appear to have little commitment to multi-culturalism, and is a reflection of the dark days under John Howard-ism. It is essential for the health of our democracy that the people who have made such detrimental decisions be replaced, and that SBS be adequately funded to enable it to return to its vital role in the Australian community.

In that regard, I call on the present Federal government to honour its election promises and provide SBS with the funds needed to fulfill their Charter. I do not believe the Charter needs to be amended.
