ABC Local Radio needs to be carried on FM in all capital cities. The ABC is fighting with one hand tied behind its back by being on AM only in this age when an increasing number of radio reception devices - eg, MP3 players, mobile phones, PDAs, etc, can receive only FM radio transmissions. In Sydney for example, the only ABC radio station broadcasting on the FM band is the classical music station. This does not encourage sufficient young people to tune into the national broadcaster.
